Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, June 25, 2023 – Hong Kong, China capped off their bid in the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup for Women with a straight-set win, 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-14) against Macau, China on Sunday morning.
The champion team of the 2022 edition settled for 9th place in the competition held in Gresik City’s Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gresik Gymnasium.
Opposite hitter To Wing Man and captain Chim Wing Lam led the victors, as they posted 11 markers each. Mostly, they imposed pressure through their service. They even converted with 8 service winners in the match.
Yu Ying Chi who started in the match noted on their performance in the 2023 edition.
“We have a different line-up this year, like we have new middle blockers who have just started joining the team. In essence, we are rebuilding the team, and slowly improving our performance,” she said.
Hong Kong, China captain Chim Wing Lam will always remember her stay in Indonesia because of their five-setter against Mongolia in the Classification round.
“The most memorable match for me is when we played five sets with Mongolia. I was playing hurt at that time, and I knew I needed to push myself a little more to help my team,” she said.
Yu Ying Chi added “I think the fact that we were able to play five-set matches here makes us feel like we have become physically stronger, but also mentally tougher. And this is a good step to make for our progress.”
Hong Kong, China will now return home to prepare for upcoming competition events such as the 22nd Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Thailand and 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 coming September.
