Korea, August 20, 2019 – Iran recovered from their first defeat against Korea to beat Hong Kong China in straight sets 25-20 25-15 25-15 in their second Pool A match of the 20th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship at Jamsil Students’ Gymnasium on Tuesday.
Led by powerful attacker Mahsa Kadakhoda, Iran showed excellent defensive and offensive skills to win the first set 25-20.
Hong Kong China tried to put up a good fight in the second set with Wing Lam Pang puncturing the Iranian defence with her aggressive attacks. However, Iran didn’t allow the rivals to score easily as they responded well with solid blocking. Nonetheless, Hong Kong China’s defense became more inconsistent since their attacks got the tough going with effective blocking from the rivals. Iran widened the gap to a 14-12 lead .Wing Lam Chin tried to turn things around for her team but it was not enough to stop powerful attacks from the Iranian side. The second set ended 25-15 in favour of the Iranians.
The beginning of the third set was quite tight until Iran took the lead 8-4. After the second technical time out, Iran overwhelmed Hong Kong China with their powerful jump serves and fine attacks to extend their lead and went on to close out the set 25-15.
After the match, Iran Head coach Javad Mehregan expressed his satisfaction over the team’s victory “This is our first victory but it won’t be our last one. We couldn’t show our best performance the last match but we got many lessons. These lessons made us even stronger. In this competition, Iran team can meet high-level teams in Asia. Through this process, my team can improve and learn many things. This is one of my targets. Now, we get through to the top 8 but we are aiming for top 6 through this competition. Ultimately, my goal is to finish fourth in Asia.”
