JAPAN CRUISE TO 3-0 VICTORY OVER AUSTRALIA AND ROUND OF TOP 8

Seoul, Korea, August 20, 2019 – Japan advanced to the round of top 8 following a comfortable straight-set 3-0 (25-11 25-21 25-8) win over Australia in their last Pool B match of the 20th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship at Jamsil Indoor Stadium on Tuesday.

Japan got off  to a flying start as they showed their traditional tenacious playing style against the tall Australia team. Both sides traded point by point until Japan’s captain Tamaki Matsui’s powerful serves put the team in front with a 3-point advantage at 10-7. Taking the role of team captain and setter, Tamaki did her job perfectly as she distributed the ball well to the team’s spikers. Japan, coached by Noboru Aihara, played with confidence and dominated the first set 25-11.

Powerful attacks from Yuki Nishikawa and Miyu Nakagawa led Japan to an initial 3-0 lead in the second set. As Japan were leading 15-10,  Australia’s Jennifer Sadler carried out her exceptional attacks to break Japan’s consecutive points for a short while. Jannifer was a big threat to the Japanese reception as she produced a series of powerful spikes . Australia fought out well but they committed some easy mistakes at crucial points, allowing the Japanese to take the action-packed set 25-21.

Falling behind 0-2, Australia did not give up easily and they fought back hard for a comeback. However, Japan remained unstoppable on defense and offense with their  brilliant on-court display. They stormed on to seal the comfortable third set 25-8 and match.

With three consecutive wins, Japan captured the Pool B winners and advanced to the round of top 8 teams.
