JAPAN FINISH UNBEATEN IN ANKARA

Ankara, Turkey, May 30, 2019 – Asian champions Japan finished undefeated at the second-week campaign of the 2019 VNL following a convincing straight-set 25-23 25-19 25-17 victory over Germany in their last match here on Thursday.

Japan got the second-week VNL encounters in Ankara off to a brilliant start with a stunning 3-0 win over hosts Turkey. They later repeated the similar feat with a great 3-1 win over Russia before thrashing Germany 3-0 to end the three-day campaign here with a clean sweep of victories.

Japan player Ai Kurogo: “We had good serves. I’m happy that we won the match.”

Japan coach Kumi Nakada: “We finished on top in Ankara. I’m happy that we won the match too.”

Germany player Louisa Lippmann: “We did not play well and lost the match. I hope we will play better in the next matches of the VNL.”

Germany coach Felix Koslowski: “We didn’t take good serves and didn’t make a block during the match against Japan. It is always difficult to play against Asian teams.”
