Tehran, Iran, August 22, 2022 – Fired-up Japan captured their third Asian Men’s U18 title after overpowering hosts Iran in thrilling straight sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 in the final showdown of the 2022 Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Federation Hall on Monday.
Splendid teamwork, offensive combinations and determination had been regarded as the key points of Japan for the Monday’s exceptional victory against Iran, former seven-time champions and bronze medallists at the last year’s U19 World Championship.
Japan got off to a solid start in the first set, which they performed superbly to seal the hard-fought set 25-22 against the Iranian outfit. In the second set, both teams capitalized on their power and speed at the net, but the strong visitors remained in superb form up to their standard to foil the rivals’ fightback attempts. Japan took the hotly-contested second set 25-22 to stretch the lead to 2-0.
Hoping for a comeback, the young Iranians showcased their hidden talents and skills beyond their age in the third set. The host side tried to turn the fate as they took a commanding lead 15-14. At halfway, Iran tried to level it 19-19.
Despite attempting to regain their form, Iran found Japan uncatchable as they came up with ebullient power and concentration in a surprising degree. Japan clinched the third set 25-23 and the championship.
