KOREA RECORD LOPSIDED WIN AGAINST KUWAIT

Tehran, Iran, September 14, 2019 – Fired-up Korea demolished Kuwait in pulsating straight sets 25-14, 25-16, 25-11 to hand the opponents their second loss at the SMM 20th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at the 12,000-seater Azadi Sports Complex on Saturday.

Korea, fresh from winning their opening Pool D match against Pakistan the previous day, continued their winning record on the second day of the topflight competition to make their dreams of making the cut for the round of the top 8 teams come true.

Backed by over 100 adoring fans at the venue, Korea showcased their exceptional attacks and solid blocks, which entirely foiled the Kuwait’s determined fightback efforts.

“Today we played well enough to join the top eight teams. I am happy and we will do our best in next matches as well,” Korea head coach Im Dohun said after the match.

No player scored with double digits in this match. Na Gyeong-Bok emerged as Korea’s top scorer with 9 points, while Im Donghyeok added 8 points. Rashed Saleh Anbar scored 8 points for the losing Kuwait.

Korea will next play Indonesia in their last preliminary match on Sunday, while Kuwait go up against Pakistan, which Saturday pulled off a dramatic 3-2 (25-20 26-24 19-25 20-25 15-13) win against Indonesia, a surprise fourth place at the previous edition on their home soil.
