The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Dubai Challenge is due to start Saturday in the United Arab Emirates, with experienced Beach Pro Tour Aussies Izac Carracher and Mark Nicolaidis straight into the Main Draw.
However another three Aussie Teams have earned a spot in the qualification draw, including Zac Schubert and Thomas Hodges, who will be joined by two Men’s Developing Beach Volleyroos teams eager to gain experience on the Tour.
Under the watchful eye of coach Andrew Schacht, the young Australian pairs of James Takken/Solomon Bushby and Jack Pearse/Josh Howat will compete in three events across the Middle East over the next three weeks, trying to qualify for the main draws at the two Dubai Challenge events and at the Oman Futures.
It will be the first international competition for most of this group this year and the Developing Beach Volleyroos are eager to get out on the Tour and test themselves against some of the top international teams, after a long winter of preparation.
“I am very excited to get out and play the world after a hard training block here at home and give it a red hot crack against the best!” Bushby said.
As the excitement builds up towards the 2022 Pro Tour season-ending Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest events in beautiful Torquay (23 Nov – 4 Dec) the Developing Beach Volleyroos are keen to get international experience under their belts, their sights set firmly toward Paris 2024 and beyond.
Coach Andrew Schacht is confident the upcoming tour, organised with the support of Volleyball Australia’s major partners including the South Australian Sports Institute, is going to be an important stepping stone in their development. He also praised the encouraging work ethic displayed by the young players in preparation for these events.
“They have had a long lead-in since the Aussie summer finished and they are all really excited to take another step toward Brisbane 2032,” Schacht said.
“The new combinations are working well together and I look forward to seeing them put all their hard work into play.”
The three Aussie qualification teams will play in the Beach Pro Tour Dubai Challenge 1 Qualifiers on Saturday, and if they make it to the main draw, they will join Carracher and Nicolaidis, who are seeded #3 in the first Dubai Challenge and will take to the court on Sunday.
