Male, Maldives, March 26, 2024 – The Volleyball Association of Maldives held an Extraordinary Congress on Tuesday at 10pm Maldives time to elect its new leadership following the resignation of Mr Mohamed Raneysh on March 1, 2024.
Mr Mohammed Latheef, himself President of Central Asian Volleyball Association, won the election by acclamation as he was the sole candidate for the VAM President.
Mohammed Latheef becomes new VAM President
According to Mr Latheef, during the election, votes were not casted since one candidate for each position. He repeated that as per VAM statues, all was elected by acclamation.
Mr Latheef is in the position for a one-year term until April 1, 2025. This marks Mr Latheef’s second term as the President of the Volleyball Association of Maldives following his initial tenure from 2016 to 2020.
Mr Mohammed Latheef’s leadership extends beyond the Maldives, as he has also been serving as the CAVA President since 2020. His second term as CAVA President began this February following the unanimous election with 14 votes at the CAVA Annual General Assembly held in Bangkok, Thailand on February 2, 2024.

– Senior Vice President: Mr Mohamed Sajid
– Vice President – Volleyball: Mr Ali Latheef
– Vice President – Adminstration: Mr Izzath Waheed
– Vice President – Female: Ms Aaidha Abdul Hakeem
– Executive Committee Member – 3: Mr Fathuhullah Waheed
– Executive Committee Member – 4: Mr Sofwan Ahmed
– Executive Committee Member – 5: Mr Shiyam Ali
– Executive Committee Member – 6 (Female): Ms Aishath Fatheenath
The unanimous support for the newly-elected leadership underscores the confidence and trust placed in them by Members of the Volleyball Association of Maldives. The association looks forward to Mr Latheef’s leadership in advancing the sport of volleyball and promoting its values throughout the Maldives.
