Dar Kulaib captured their fourth league title in the history of the Bahrain’s topflight volleyball league and their second year in a row following a hard-fought 3-2 (25-22, 28-26, 18-25, 21-25, 17-15) victory over Al Ahli in their third game of the best-of-three of Isa bin Rashid League championship series on Sunday, March 24 in front of a mass audience at the packed Isa bin Rashid Arena at BVA Headquarters at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
Dar Kulaib, spearheaded by superstar Mohammed Yaqoob, got off to a great start to dominate the first two sets and appeared to be on their way to a clean sweep for the crown, but Al Ahli, the 2021-22 Bahrain League winners, regained their balance with magnificent comeback to win the third and fourth sets, sending the match into a winner-take-all fifth set.
The decider saw both sides pour everything they had to win the set and match, but Dar Kulaib proved a bit steadier to narrowly beat the tough rivals 17-15 for the eventual title.
In the awards presentation, Bahrain Volleyball Association President Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Sheikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Table Tennis Association and Member of Bahrain Olympic Committee, and sponsors, jointly presented the winners with gold medals and the trophy of the Issa Bin Rashid Volleyball League, while second place Al Ahli and third place Al Najma took home silver and bronze medals respectively.
With their triumph, Dar Kulaib clinched their fourth league title, just one behind Al Ahli, which had five titles to their name. They will now be hoping to win a title double for second successive season when they aim high to retain their His Royal Highness the Crown Prince’s Cup.
