Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, September 29, 2024 – Japan’s NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki took the title at the 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship after a straight-sets defeat, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-17) of Vietnam’s LPBank Ninh Binh on Sunday afternoon at Chartchai Hall.
The trophy in Nakhon Ratchasima represented the second title for the Japan club, which also won the championship in 2016 in Manila, Philippines.
Lorrayna Da Silva bested all scorers on the board, contributing a total of 18 points in the title match.
The Japan club immediately rocketed to a huge 8-0 advantage on the scoreboard, and more so in the team’s morale. It brought much worry to their opponents, who used up the timeout quota for the first set.
LPBank Ninh Binh could not seem to establish the usual rhythm they have shown throughout the competition. They could run their plays on captain Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen but the team, in general, posted low percentage on attack.
It appeared that NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki found a way, if not to completely stop, but to limit the scoring output of their opponents number one hitter. They continued lining up their blocks well, converting on a total of 5 deflections in the second set.
Japan club’s Da Silva kept a strong presence at the right flank. Yoshino Sato performed equally well in attacking and passing. While their opponents were trying to play along each sideout, in the hopes of staging a comeback, NEC Red Rockets managed to keep the momentum going toward the successful completion of their quest for the title.
