Lausanne, Switzerland, September 17, 2020 – The FIVB Board of Administration has approved the updates to the qualification processes for the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Age Group World Championships.
As per the decision of the FIVB Board of Administration in 2019, teams are to qualify for the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Age Group World Championships through their respective Continental Age Group Championships, which must be held by 31 December 2020 at the latest.
However, due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent impact on some Confederations’ ability to organise the events within the given deadline, the FIVB has decided to postpone the deadline for continental qualifications to 28 February 2021.
Additionally, it was decided that, in the case of no Continental Confederations being able to hold qualifying event(s), teams will qualify according to the respective Continental Rankings as per the below quota allocation.
*The FIVB is currently in discussions with several National Federations regarding the possibility of hosting these events in two countries. In which case, the host quota would be increased to two, while the quota for teams not yet qualified would be reduced to four.
All the participating teams for the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Age Group World Championships will be confirmed by 31 March 2021. The FIVB Age Group World Ranking will be used to identify teams not yet qualified for the Women’s U20 and Men’s U21 World Championships.
