Tehran, Iran, March 14, 2021 – Sirjan Foulad revived their high hopes of capturing the Iran Men’s Volleyball Super League title as they avenged their first loss to Urmia Shahrdari in a highly-anticipated home match in the best-of-three final on Sunday.
Morteza Akrami and Alireza Gharib had been named the respective first and second referees to officiate this match, while Dr Alinezhad, Deputy Minister of Sports Ministry of Iran, IRIVF President Dr Mohammad Reza Davarzani, and Dr Vahid Moradi, the Supreme Advisor of IRIVF, watched the match onsite with other VIP guests.
In their first away match on Friday, March 12, Sirjan Foulad, the team finishing fourth after the 30-week preliminaries, went down in hard-fought five sets to Urmia Shahrdari.
Urmia Shahrdari entered the Federation Hall on Sunday with heads high in confidence, hoping for the best that they would win the second match for a clean sweep and the eventual title.
However, things turned sour for Urmia Shahrdari as Sirjan Foulad showed tremendous courage and defensive resilience against Urmia Shahrdari to pull off a stunning 28-26, 25-22, 25-21 victory over the tough rivals.
Tall Pourya Yali was on fire throughout the game to score a game-high 15 points for Urmia Shahrdari including 14 attack hits from 24 attempts, while Saber Kazemi led Sirjan Foulad with 13 points including 12 attacks.
With the hard-fought win, Sirjan Foulad successfully held Urmia Shahrdari to a 1-1 draw, resulting in the third match to decide the eventual winners. The decider is set to take place on Tuesday, March 16.
