Tehran, Iran, May 20, 2022 – South Gas shrugged off their dismal start to edge past Erbil in epic tie-breaker 17-25, 25-16, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12 to finish 7th place at the 2022 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship at Azadi Hall on Friday.

Erbil started solidly in the opening set of the 7th-8th playoff encounter and held firm to produce the goods and took the lead 16-11 in the second technical time-out and continued to show supremacy and won the first set 25-17.
In the second and third sets, in-form South Gas responded with effective blocks and powerful attacks with an aim of making amends for the first-set loss. South Gas Sport Club went on their attacks to win the hard-fought set 25-16 and 25-22 to surge ahead the rivals for a 2-1 lead.
The fourth set was more thrilling as both teams came out in full measure, but after leading with three points ahead at the first technical timeout, Erbil lost some points to tie 9-9 due to their unforced mistakes. However, Erbil stormed on consistently. Spectacular attacks from Muntadher Yasir and Nawzad Mohammed worked out pretty well in overcoming the high South Gas’s blocks to help Erbil win the set 25-20.
South Gas showed more improvement in the tie-breaker and came out with a different level, winning back-to-back points and from then playing more consistently to win 15-12 and match.
En route to the 7th-place finish in this top-tier competition, South Gas Sport Club had only one win against five losses to hosts Peykan, Nakhon Ratchasima QminC, Suntory Sunbirds, Shahdab Yazd and Al-Rayyan.
