Shaoxing, China, December 2, 2019 – The FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship gets bigger and better each year and this year’s edition is no exception, as it puts together the strongest field of teams and stars in years.
Last year’s top three podium finishers – Vakifbank Istanbul, Itambe Minas, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul – are back and aiming for a great performance in the latest edition, but all agreed that this is the toughest competition so far for them.
Vakifbank Istanbul coach Giovanni Guidetti: “We are happy to be here again. We are rebuilding the team so we will do our best to play. We want to use the matches here to improve ourselves.”
Vakifbank Istanbul captain Ayse Melis Gurkaynak: “We have amazing memories here in Shaoxing. We had a strong team last year and now we are rebuilding. It would not be easy this year because of the strong teams. However, we want to put our best on the court and we wish all teams the best of luck.”
Itambe Minas coach Nicola Negro: “It’s a great pleasure to play among the best clubs in the world. We are honoured to represent Brazilian volleyball. We are here to play our best and take the best possible result. We are expecting to play and grow up as a team. I think this will be the most memorable World Championship edition.”
Itambe Minas captain Carol Gattaz: “It’s a pleasure to be here again in Shaoxing. We will do our best as always. This will be a great competition and we wish all the teams good luck.”
Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul coach Marco Aurelio Motta: “We are happy to be in this competition. This is by far the best competition in years. The teams are the best in the world. We are glad to be here to represent the country and the club. We will be facing strong opponents here and it will be tough for all the teams.”
Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul captain Kim Yeon-Koung: “We are happy to be here. There are so many good teams in this competition and we are excited to play against these good teams. We have a good team and we have a positive spirit., so we will do our best to play well in this tournament.”
Making their return to the Women’s Club World Championship are last year’s debutantes Dentil Praia Clube, 2013 bronze medallists Guangdong Evergrande Volleyball Club and 2012 fifth-placer Tianjin Bohai Bank Volleyball Club, which all aim for good performances and improvement in the team.
Dentil Praia Clube coach Paulo Barros: “It’s an honour to be part of this World Championship. It’s a big challenge for my team to face strong opponents. We dream high and we dream big. Our challenge in this competition is to perform our best and to rebuild the team.”
Dentil Praia Club captain Walewska Oliveira: “I want to say thanks to the city of Shaoxing for the warm welcome. This tournament will really be a great challenge for the team, but we will always do our best in each match.”
Guangdong Evergrande Volleyball Club coach Yan Fang: “We want to welcome all the teams to China. We are very honoured and glad to be invited to attend this international event. We also recognise that there is a huge gap on the level between my team and the other clubs. However, we will grab this opportunity to learn from our counterparts. We also want to showcase our best talents in this competition.”
Guangdong Evergrande Volleyball Club captain Li Yao: “It’s an honour and a great privilege to be able to attend this tournament. This is such a huge opportunity for me and my team. This tournament will help us improve on our game.”
Tianjin Bohai Bank Volleyball Club coach Chen Youquan: “It’s a great pleasure to lead my team to the Women’s Club World Championship. We will spare no effort in this competition and aim for victory. This is a great opportunity for our team to learn. We will try to be brave and compete against strong counterparts. We will give our 100 per cent in this tournament and to our supporters.”
Tianjin Bohai Bank Volleyball Club captain Zhu Ting: “I am honoured to be able to participate in these matches at the Women’s Club World Championship. I will do my best to help my team achieve the best results in this tournament.”
Igor Gorgonzola Novara coach Massimo Barbolini: “It’s an honour and we are proud to be here. We all know that this tournament will be amazing because the high level of competitions, thanks to the teams that will be competing this year. We know that we will improve and learn something from this tournament.”
Igor Gorgonzola Novara captain Cristina Chirichella: It’s a pleasure to be here to participate in this international event. It’s our first time to compete here and play against the strongest teams in the world. We will try to show the best volleyball we can.”
Imoco Volley Conegliano coach Daniele Santarelli: “We are very happy to be here. For me and a lot of my players, this will be our first experience in this World Championship. We are full of emotions but welcome this as a good opportunity for everybody. The level is very high, in fact, it has the best level, so we have to play our best to achieve good results.”
Imoco Volley Conegliano captain Joanna Wolosz: “It’s a big honour to be here. It’s our first time and this is something big for us as we represent the club in an international competition. We will do our best and fight in every match. We wish everyone the best.”
