TOKYO OLYMPICS TEST EVENT SET FOR MAY

Look out for the Volleyball Games – Tokyo Challenge 2021 from May 1 to 2.

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 27, 2020 – The Test Event for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, now rescheduled for 2021, has been confirmed ahead of the ultimate sporting event of the planet for May 2021.

The Volleyball Games – Tokyo Challenge 2021 will take place on May 1 and 2 at the newly-built Ariake Arena, due to host the actual Olympic tournaments, almost three months later.

The event will test three essential elements: the field of play, the use of technology, and operations staff. Particular focus will be placed on technical aspects, including protocols relating to Covid-19.

The volleyball competitions of the Olympic Games will begin on July 24, the day after the Opening Ceremony, and run until the very last day of the Games on August 8, just hours before the Closing Ceremony.

For the first time in history the volleyball competition will end with the women’s final on the last day of the Olympic Games – the men’s gold medal match scheduled a day earlier on August 7.

The Olympic Games had originally been scheduled to be held this year, but were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic to their new dates in 2021.

The men’s competition features hosts Japan alongside defending champions Brazil, Poland, Italy, Canada, Iran, Venezuela, USA, Russia, Argentina, France and Tunisia.

For the women’s Olympic tournament Japan host defending champions China, Serbia, Brazil, Korea, Dominican Republic, Kenya, USA, Russia, Italy, Argentina and Turkey.
