The FIVB has invested CHF 4 million in empowering the global Volleyball Family with two more application windows in 2023 still remaining
At the midway point of the Volleyball Empowerment 2022-2023 cycle, the money invested into the sport’s development has already surpassed the previous cycle as the FIVB reiterates its commitment to empowering National Federations and national teams across the world.
Volleyball Empowerment is a revolutionary programme of development support, officially launched by FIVB President Dr Ary S Graça F° at the 37th World Congress in 2021. The overall goal of the programme is to empower and improve the level of national teams and athletes, providing them with the skills to play at the highest level.

The 2022-2023 Volleyball Empowerment cycle has seen a considerable increase in the number of projects submitted and approved across the first two application windows. Including both application-based and targeted support, a total of 137 projects were submitted, of which 121 were approved. This represents an overall approval rate of 88 per cent and an investment of CHF 4 million with two application windows in 2023 still remaining.

The previous 2021-2022 application cycle saw 94 projects in 68 countries approved, accounting for over 3.5 million CHF invested in the development of volleyball and beach volleyball across the world. Meanwhile, the previous 2021-2022 targeted support saw 10 projects in 9 countries approved, accounting for CHF 1.4 million invested in the development of the sport.
FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“The figures for the latest cycle of Volleyball Empowerment showcases that our revolutionary programme to help national teams reach their full potential is on an upward trajectory. It also reflects our commitment to investing the money that comes from the sport back into the sport.
“The FIVB leadership, alongside our professional Technical and Development team, have worked tirelessly to ensure that our National Federations understand the support available to them and how to develop strong projects. We are certainly seeing an increase in the number of good projects submitted, and we are excited to continue empowering national volleyball and beach volleyball teams worldwide to elevate our sport to even greater heights moving forward.”
Volleyball Empowerment is assisting France’s national beach volleyball teams through targeted support ahead of Paris 2024
For application-based support, 114 projects were approved across all five Continental Confederations, with 33 coach support projects, 56 volleyball equipment projects and 25 knowledge transfer programmes approved. Additionally, seven countries – Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, France, Mexico, Slovenia and Ukraine – have been identified so far for the Volleyball Empowerment targeted support programme in the 2022-2023 cycle.

The third application window for 2023 will be open very early in the new year for all 222 of the FIVB’s National Federations to apply for support.
