VOLLEYBALL WORLD WELCOMES HOST CITY APPLICATIONS FOR VOLLEYBALL NATIONS LEAGUE FINALS 2022

Women’s and men’s finals will be staged in July 2022

Volleyball World has invited potential host cities to express their interest in staging the women’s and men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Finals 2022 with the possibility of hosting both events in one location to create a unique festival of international volleyball.

The VNL Finals will see the eight strongest teams per gender proceed to the knockout phase which will consist of eight matches: the quarterfinals, semi-finals and bronze and gold medal matches. The women’s edition of the event will be staged from 13 to 17 July, while the men’s finals will be hosted on 20-24 July.

All host city applications should be submitted to Volleyball World at event.hosting@volleyball.world by 10 December 2021. The hosting expression of interest form can be found in the mentioned article on https://www.fivb.com/en/about/news/volleyball-world-welcomes-host-city-applications-for?id=96576

The VNL is a flagship annual volleyball event that was established in 2018. The new format of the competition, announced in August 2021, will see 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams competing in pools of eight teams during the pool phase. With the new format in place, each team will play 12 matches  in their pools across three weeks of competition, consisting of four matches between the Tuesday and Sunday of each week.

The new competition format means that each gender plays on alternate weeks, allowing for a one-week gap between events. The total number of matches in the pool phase will be 96. Eight teams per gender will then move into the final knockout phase of the competition, creating even more opportunities for fans to witness electrifying volleyball action.
