YUJI NISHIDA TO PLAY IN ITALY

Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Velentia has confirmed recently that Japanese star opposite Yuji Nishida will join the club for the 2021-22 Italian Serie A season.

The 21-year-old left-hander played for JTEKT Stings in the V.League until last season, leading the club to victory in 2019/20. He made his debut for the Stings in 2018 and soon earned a place on Japan men’s national volleyball team.

Despite being a bit shorter than the average player in his position at 1.86 meters, Nishida’s leaping ability and electrifying spikes never fail to push the excitement scale up and leave the audience in awe.

At the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup, he helped Japan finish fourth – 28 years after their last Top 4 finish in 1991. He was the squad’s youngest at age 19 and selected as the tournament’s Best Opposite.

He recently helped Japan to a seventh place at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, scoring 105 points in the process.

At Tonno Callipo Volley, Nishida will join a strong continent of Brazilian players, including Mauricio Borges, Douglas Souza and Flavio Gualberto.

The club will begin its Lega Pallavolo Serie A season on October 10 away to Prisma Taranto.
