5TH ASIAN U21 BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS GET UNDERWAY ON JULY 13 IN ROI ET

The 5th Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championships will be held at beach volleyball site inside Ban Nong Ya Ma Community School in Roi Et, Thailand from July 13 to 16, with 39 teams from 11 countries including 22 men’s teams striving for top honor in the double-gender event.

The four-day championships in Roi Et serve as the Asian qualification for the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships, due to be held at the same competition venue here in Roi Et, Thailand from November 7 to 12, 2023. The top five teams in the Asian U21 Championships will get directly into the main draw of the World Championships, with the next four teams entering the qualifying actions of the world meet.

The Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championships in Roi Et are the fifth consecutive edition of the biennial competition hosted by Thailand. The inaugural edition in 2016 was held in Kamphaengphet, with the following edition taking place in Roi Et in 2017. Roi Et also organized the 2019 edition, while Nakhon Pathom hosted the fourth edition in 2021. Eight years down memory lane, Roi Et returned to host the 2023 edition.

Iran and Australia shared the honor at the previous edition in Nakhon Pathom two years ago, with the former winning their unprecedented men’s title and the latter making their presence felt to capture the women’s crown.

The participating nations in the men’s event comprise Australia, China, Kazakhstan, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Lebanon, Hong Kong China and hosts Thailand, while 17 women’s teams are from Australia, China, Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Hong Kong China and hosts Thailand.

The men’s teams were divided into 8 Pools, six of them (Pools A, B, C, D, E, F) with three teams each and the remaining two (Pools G and H) with two teams apiece. The women’s event saw participating teams split into five teams in Pool A and four teams apiece in Pools B, C and D.

In the men’s event, teams will play pool round-robin preliminaries from July 13 to 14, with only top two teams from each pool advancing to Round of 16. Semifinals and finals will be held on July 15 and July 16 respectively.

The women’s teams will contest the pool play between July 13 and 15, with top two teams making the cut to the quarterfinals on July 15. The women’s semifinals and finals will take place on July 16.

 

To make things clear that all is set to go for a possible smooth competition, the General Technical Meeting took place at Petcharat Garden Hotel in Roi Et on Wednesday, with Roi Et Deputy Governor Mr Choosak Rachaburi presiding and presenting souvenirs to team representatives, distinguished guests including Technical Delegate Mr Kritsada Panaseri from Thailand and Referee Delegate Mr Nader Ansari from Iran.

Also in attendance were Roi Et Municipality Mayor Mr Banjong Kositjiranan, Muang Roi Et Municipality Deputy Mayor Dr Nichakorn Maschamadol, Ms Nattalida Sumdangdech, AVC Officer in charge of AVC Beach Volleyball Department, and all participating teams.

    

In the meeting, Roi Et Deputy Governor Mr Choosak delivered a welcome speech, while Technical Delegate Mr Kritsada informed all participating teams of the rules of the game and other important matters and Referee Delegate Mr Ansari of the relevant refereeing issues.
