2023 ASIAN WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SET TO KICK OFF IN VINH PHUC, VIETNAM COMING TUESDAY

Vinh Phuc, Vietnam, April 23, 2023 – All is set for the staging of the 2023 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship between April 25 and May 2 at the newly-renovated Vinh Phuc Gymnasium, with Control Committee President and Technical Delegate Dr Eom Han-Joo chairing the combined session on Sunday to verify processes to ensure working conditions for a successful run of this continent’s topflight club competition and examine relevant activities including a site inspection ahead of the official kickoff coming Tuesday.

    

A total of 9 teams will test their mettle in the eight-day tournament, which serves as the Asian qualification tournament for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, due to be held in December in China. They are Sport Center 1 (hosts Vietnam), King Whale Taipei (Chinese Taipei), Paykan (Iran) and Hisamitsu Springs (Japan) in Pool A and Liaoning Donghua VC (China),  Hip Hing VC (Hong Kong, China), Altay VC (Kazakhstan), Khuvsgul Erchim VC (Mongolia) and Diamond Food Fine Chef Sport Club (Thailand) in Pool B.

Teams will play pool round-robin preliminaries, with only top two teams from each pool advancing to the cross semifinals. The lower-ranked sides finishing 3rd and 4th places in Pool A and 3rd, 4th and 5th places in Pool B will fight it out in classification round for 5th-9th places.

   

 

Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee Mr Tran Duc Phan, himself Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam, presided over the joint meeting at the meeting room inside the Vinh Phuc Gymnasium on Sunday to deliver a welcome speech to all meeting attendants.

“On behalf of Volleyball Federation of Vietnam, I would like to say that I’m very delighted to welcome everyone to this championship. It’s quite a long time for Vietnam to host this event and I’m also happy to welcome my dear colleagues from AVC to Vinh Phuc, a sporting destination for several major events including the last year’s SEA Games and the Asian Women’s Club Championship for many times. The Vinh Phuc Gymnasium has already been renovated with improvement of facilities. I hope that the renovated competition hall will meet all AVC’s requirements. Although I’m very busy with other sporting commitments, I will do my best and hope for the best that the championship will be a success,” Mr Phan, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration, was quoted as saying in his speech.

    

CC President and Technical Delegate Dr Eom Han-Joo, himself Chairman of the AVC Sports Events Council and Member of the FIVB Sports Events Council, speaking on behalf of AVC President Mrs Rita Subowo, thanked the VFV, Vietnam and Vinh Phuc in particular for their great contribution in hosting this top-tier competition. He also praised the federation for their markedly improving their preparations in hosting the AVC Championship.

“The Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship marks the first AVC event of the year 2023. Three years after the COVID-19 pandemic, we are now quite certain of working for the AVC Championship in normal conditions. However, as nothing can guarantee us that we will be safe from the COVID-19, I recommend all CC Members to wear face masks while in the competition hall although it’s not mandatory,” Dr Eom said.

    

In the meeting, the AVC Control Committee Members had also been introduced. They comprised Technical Sub Committees Ms Feng Kun from China and Mr Nguyen Ba Nghi from Vietnam, Referee Delegate Mr Takashi Shimoyama from Japan, Referee Sub Committee Dr Khaled Al-Zughaibi from Saudi Arabia, Press Delegate Mr Preechachan Wiriyanupappong from Thailand, VIS Supervisor Ms Pawna Srithoop from Thailand, VDO Challenge Technician Ms Mingkwan Pusiddusid from Thailand and Official Photographer Ms Vu Thi Thu Thao from Vietnam.

    

Dr Eom Han-Joo also informed that VIS Delegate Mr Lee Chia-Wei from Chinese Taipei and E-Scoresheet Supervisor Mr Pavarit Dairinram could not attend the meeting as both of them were conducting the VIS program for local staff at the hotel. 

 

Mrs Sawalee Thiansunhirun, Rights Acquisition and Marketing Manager of Siam Inter Multimedia PCL (SMM), the AVC’s worldwide media and marketing partner, and local organizing committee including Administration Manager Mrs Nguyen Thi Nhat Thanh, Accommodation Manager Mrs Nguyen Thi Ngoc Ha, Venue Manager Dao Xuan Chung and Competition Manager Mr Tran Thanh Tung were also introduced to the meeting.

After that, the venue inspection was conducted, with all CC Members split for rough check-ups to various locations including the main competition site and adjacent working areas, CC Room as well as Referee and Medical Rooms.

    

Tables and chairs for officials and team players have completely been set up at the competition court, while decoration tasks at VIP seats and the grandstands as well as the setup for working areas for VIS and Press Delegates and the Official Photographer continue until Monday when the final inspection will be made.

   

Vietnam has already hosted the Asian Women’s Club Championship for 7 times including 2001 in Ho Chi Minh City, 2005 in Ninh Vinh, 2007, 2008 and 2011 in Vinh Phuc, 2013 in Buon Ma That, Dak Lak and 2015 in Ha Nam. This will be for the fourth time the Championship will take place in Vinh Phuc province and 8th time for Vietnam, the most frequent host nation.

    

Meanwhile, eight participating teams have already arrived in Vinh Phuc on Sunday and started their training at the competition hall, while China’s Liaoning Donghua VC are due to reach the Vietnamese province late night on Sunday. The Control Committee have already conducted the Preliminary Inquiry for eight teams, leaving only the Chinese side to meet the CC on Monday morning in a team briefing with their assembled competition evidence to be presented.
