Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, June 23, 2023 – Hosts Indonesia, India, Vietnam, and Chinese Taipei are the Final Four teams to contend the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup for Women after completing the Classification Round on Friday.
Indonesia gifted the crowd at Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gresik Gymnasium with another win at home, after winning in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-16) against India in main event.
Spectators rallied behind the likes of Ratri Wulandari (12 points) and Hany Budiarti (10 points) who helped with double-digit scores for the winning team.
India’s run in the Classification placed them second in Pool E, which boosted their entry into the Top Four teams to contend the title.
Earlier, Vietnam completed the Classification round as Pool F leaders after beating Chinese Taipei 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19). Captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy fielded in 22 points, leading her team throughout the match with solid defense in block and floor coverage.
Even in defeat, Chinese Taipei will still continue as one of the Final Four as the second-ranked team in Pool F.
Also in Pool F, Iran staged a straight-set win 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-18) on Uzbekistan with opposite Salamatgharamaleki Aytak recording 15 points.
Meanwhile, Australia savored their first win in the competition after a 3-1 defeat (25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20) of Philippines to complete the proceedings in Pool E.
The semi-finals will be played on Saturday, June 24, in order to determine the teams to face off in the finale scheduled on Sunday at 19:00 local time.
The winning team of the AVC Challenge Cup will qualify directly for the FIVB Challenger Cup scheduled in July 2023, where the eventual winners will be promoted to Volleyball Nations League in 2024.
