Gresik, East Java, Indonesia, June 23, 2023 –Indonesia gifted the crowd at Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gresik Gymnasium with another win at home after a 3-0 match (25-21, 25-15, 25-16) against India in the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup for Women.
Friday evening’s straight-set match has brought the host team to the top of Pool E, confirming their Final Four appearance in the competition.
India completed the Classification round as the second-ranked team in Pool E, which likewise earned them a place in the 1st – 4th semi-finals.
Ratri Wulandari (12 points) and Hany Budiarti (10 points) sparked the home side’s offense, helping with double-digits for their fourth straight win in the competition.
Indonesia played in system, running tight patterns in offense and almost always providing quality transitions. Their cohesion and communication, aside from confidence, would always be on display, as they went along to dictate the pace of the match.
India showed their quality as well, proving that they could combine power with very good decisions running their counter-attack. Kambrath Poyilil Anushree posted 11 points as the top scorer for the team. Captain Nirmal also did much to help on attack.
Hosts Indonesia tried to install good pressure in the serve. As they had the advantage in passing, they were out to throw off the opponents’ offensive rhythm. They were also able to establish some good blocks, while the other team mostly struggled in converting with their deflections.
As the hosts eased into a good dose of momentum, coach M. Alim Suseno shuffled his roster and brought in his bench players, who also helped deliver toward another straight-set win at home.
Indonesia will play the semi-final match against Chinese Taipei on Saturday afternoon at 16:30, while the other semi-final between India and Vietnam will be scheduled as the main event at 19:00, All times local.
