Tianjin, China, April 27, 2019 – Captain Jong Jin Sim built in marvellous match-high 36 points as DPR Korea’s 4.25 Club prevailed in a thrilling five-setter 24-26, 18-25, 25-22 , 25-21, 15-12 against reigning and successive two-time champions Supreme Chonburi from Thailand in their Pool B encounter at the Wuqing Sports Centre on the opening day of 2019 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.
The Thai side lagged slightly behind before they fought back at the very end of the first set to turn things around by saving three set balls to wrap up the hard-fought set 26-24.
The second set was comparatively easier for the reigning champions. With an early 8-5 advantage thanks to the monster blocks and fascinating attacks from Ajcharaporn Kongyot, they smoothly closed the set 25-18.
In the third set, the Koreans made good use of a train of solid blocks and led the set at the very beginning before Supreme Chonburi came back to 8-6 and 9-8. The following rally remained a roller coaster affair as both sides traded points through aggression until 4.25 Club reversed the score to 22-21, Pleumjit Thinkaow blocked the ball out of bound, seeing the Koreans reach the set point and Kim Hyon Ju concluded the set 25-22 with a flash attack.
The fourth set still witnessed a close fight. Consecutive cross-court kills by 4.25 Club brought the set to 8-6 and 10-8. Supreme Chonburi tried to strengthen the defence by blocks from Pleumjit and Soraya Phomla. However, 4.25 managed to hold their opponents off 24-19. Supreme Chonburi saved two set balls but still could not fix the situation. The Koreans grasped the set 25-21 for the 2-2 tie.
In the decider, Supreme Chonburi took the initial momentum and led all the way to 5-1 and 6-3. However, the momentum was ceased by 4.25’s concrete defence in several long rallies. Benefiting from their strengthened attacks, the Koreans roared back to a 14-11 lead, and eventually snatched the set 15-12 to complete an incredible comeback.
