Urmia, Iran, June 14, 2019 – Head sculptures of six veteran volleyball players of Urmia City had been installed at the entrance gate of the Ghadir Sports Hall, the competition hall of the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League Week 3 here.
Creating sculptures was the idea of the mayor of Urmia City Mr Mohammad Reza Hazratpour. It is a cultural idea for memorandum of players of volleyball in the past decades. History of Urmia will be remembered through this valuable thought and action in the future.
The head sculptures of Yadolah Kargar Pisheh, Rahim Gharesi, Mahmoud Moheb, Aziz Partovi, Ebrahim Vatan Parast and Hamid Sadati were installed and unveiled last Wednesday evening, while all preparations were in the final phase for start of the third-week actions of the VNL. Sculptures were mounted and fixed over stands in a row, each of them has the name of a related player on the stand, it is for the future nations to know and remember the volleyball veteran champions of their city.
Urmia is the city of volleyball lovers. At the moment, four player of this city join the senior national team. Volleyball has a long-time history of more than 50 years in this city. These sculptures are not only the first volleyball sculptures which are installed in Ghadir Sports Hall but also are the first of its kind in Iran.
Creating and installing those sculptures are putting value to the work of pioneers in volleyball sport. Ghadir Sports Hall in Urmia, the capital city of West Azarbaijan province, is a 6.000-seater indoor sports arena. It is the home stadium of volleyball of Shahrdari Urmia Club.
