Bangkok, Thailand, September 11, 2020 – The AVC Finance Committee met on Thursday via videoconference to discuss the ongoing work of the Committee, the current financial conditions of AVC during the COVID-19 pandemic and financial planning steps to survive the crisis.
The FC Members met yesterday afternoon via a Zoom meeting, chaired by AVC Executive Vice President Mr Essa Hamza Alfailakawi from Kuwait, himself AVC Treasurer and AVC Finance Committee Chairman.
Also attending the meeting were AVC FC Secretary Mr Riad Tayeh from Australia and four other Members – Mr Jehad Khafan from Bahrain, Mr Ramavtar Singh Jakhar from India, Mr Terry Sasser from Marshall Islands and Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, himself AVC Secretary-General.
Aside from an approval of the Minutes of the 2019 AVC FC Meeting in Bangkok and reports on AVC activities and AVC Sponsorships as well as extension of the signed sponsorship contract, main topics discussed during the meeting included the 2020 AVC General Assembly and the current AVC’s financial situation.
The meeting was informed that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many countries and regions have imposed quarantines, entry bans or other travel restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus, leaving team players, officials and fans unable to travel. More importantly, regular AVC activities could not be held during the pandemic, with competitions being postponed and cancelled
As the massive global outbreak has brought Asian volleyball activities to a complete standstill, AVC has made an unprecedented move, deciding to cancel all 2020 AVC senior competitions and postpone all Asian Underage Championships to next year. Only two AVC competitions had been held this year – the 2020 AVC Tokyo Volleyball Qualifications between January 7 and 12 (men’s event in Jiangmen, China and women’s event in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand) and the 2020 AVC Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championships from February 12 to 16 in Udon Thani, Thailand.
In terms of the 2020 AVC General Assembly, the governing body has already informed all affiliated NFs that the AVC General Assembly is likely to be initially held in mid-October 2020. However, due to the unstable pandemic situation, the certain date of the Assembly can be reconfirmed around three months ahead of the specific date of the FIVB World Congress. As a result, the convening date of the 2020 AVC General Assembly, the 23rd edition of its kind, remains to be determined.
Furthermore, it was requested that AVC drop out its financial plan to ask FIVB for supporting budget AVC has needed to smoothly run its Office administration and relevant activities during these difficult times in the COVID-19 pandemic. Simultaneously, AVC has been asked to create a balanced budget in an effort of making a crucial financial plan that strives to keep revenues higher than expenses and try to reduce the cost as much as possible.
One interesting topic raised for further information and discussion was that any AVC Affiliated National Federations punished and fined have to first pay the fines, following the previous AVC Board of Administration Meeting’s decision. If not, they will not be permitted to take part in any AVC Championship. Moreover, they cannot vote in the coming AVC General Assembly, while their representatives cannot apply for any position in the AVC Board of Administration and any AVC Technical Committee.
The AVC FC Meeting has also agreed unanimously that all platforms of AVC Social Media should be increasingly promoted to raise awareness and interest of volleyball community in the region, hoping to increase in follower count of the AVC Facebook Page, Twitter and Instagram and more subscribers in AVC Youtube.
