The delegation of Qatar national men’s volleyball team left Monday morning for Slovenia to set up the outdoor camp, which will be held from August 16 to 28, in preparation for the participation in the 21st Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship to be held in Japan from September 12 to 19 with the participation of 16 teams.
During the external camp, a number of friendly matches will be held, most notably with the Slovenia national team.
The draw for the Asian Championship placed Qatar national team in a tough Pool A, which includes hosts Japan, India and Bahrain.
Qatar will start its journey in the tournament against the Japanese team on September 12, play its second match against India the following day, and conclude its first round campaign on September 14 with a meeting with Bahrain.
Reigning Asian champions Iran are in Pool B along with Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong China. Pool C comprises Australia, silver medallists at the previous edition, China, Sri Lanka and Kuwait, with Korea, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia in Pool D.
At the 2019 Asian Championship in Tehran, Qatar finished a disappointing 9th position. The Qatari side were also supposed to participate in the Gulf Games last year, but the event had been postponed due to the current health concerns imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
