Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, October 1, 2021 – Altay, the Kazakh side strutting their stuff at the 2018 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, got their campaign in the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship off to a flying start following a convincing 25-23, 25-13, 25-17 win against Rebisco of the Philippines in their opening Pool B match at Terminal 21 Hall on Friday.
Altay, which similarly finished fourth at the last four editions, put their acts together and attacked well to win the hard-fought first set 25-23 against Rebisco, which aimed to better their performance in line with the Philippines national team’s development plan.
The second set remained a similar script as Altay took command from the very beginning, with Nadia Kodola and Sana Anarukulova attacking devastatingly. As Rebisco struggled to find their form, Altay shone through their splendid offensive tactics and cruised to a 25-13 win.
Altay frustrated Rebisco’s defense with various strategies in the third set for an initial 11-7 lead. Serbian Marko Grsic, head coach of Altay, took confidence in his players as they took a commanding 16-9 lead. Rebisco found Altay, strengthened by hard-attacking Nadia Kodola, an impossible nut to crack and went down 17-25 in the third set.
“We expect a very hard game because the first match of every competition could be tough. We needed time to adapt and after the first set, my players performed very well and I am satisfied with it. I am sure of my players to do well one at a time. I’m upbeat that we will play better and better,” Marko Grsic stated.
