AMIN STEERS MIGHTY IRAN TO 3-1 WIN AGAINST IRAQ

Urmia, Iran, August 21, 2023 – Devastating Iran came out in full force to whip the Iraqis in four-setter 19-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-14 in their last Pool A match on Day 3 of the 2023 Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at Al-Ghadir Hall 1 on Monday. 

Iraq delivered a big shock to the hosts Iran before the eyes of 7000 fans. Iraq took command in the first set powered past Iran 25-19 in the first set, thanks to the powerful attacks from Amin Esmaeilnezhad and Mohammad Fallah.

Iran tried to shrug off their dismal start, came up with more aggression, and went on a blistering run to take control. As the Iraqis became more prone with successive unforced mistakes, the host side were all smiles to win the second set 25-12. 

The third and fourth set was one-sided affair as Iran got the helm of the set and pressured the Iraq’s defence. The rhythm was with the hosts, seeing them take advantage of the rivals’ unforced mistakes to stretch the lead and cruised on to win the set 25-15, 25-14 and match.

Amin Esmaeilnezhad chipped in with 16 points for Iran including 11 attacks, 1 blocks, and 4 aces. Hussain Nameer Shamil Kamoona led Iraq with 10 points, all from attacks.
