ASIAN SR MEN’S CENTRAL ZONE CHAMPIONSHIP GETS UNDER WAY IN NEPAL

Kathmandu, Nepal, August 19, 2019 – President of Nepal Volleyball Association, Mr Manoranjan Raman Sharma, presided over the General Technical Meeting of the 2019 Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship, with team managers and coaches from seven teams in attendance at Gokama House here on Sunday.

Seven countries are taking part in the Championship from August 19 to 24 comprising Kyrgyzstan, Maldives and hosts Nepal in Pool A and Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in Pool B.

All participating teams will compete in the pool round-robin preliminaries between August 19 and 21, with only top two teams from each pool contesting the cross semi-finals on August 22. The teams finishing 3rd from each pool will battle it out in the 5th-6th playoff on August 23, with the two losers in the semi-finals vying for the bronze medal on the same day.

The final showdown between the two winning teams from the semi-finals, the awards presentation and the closing ceremony will be held on August 24.

Turkmenistan will play their first match against Afghanistan on August 19, followed by the opening ceremony and the curtain-raising match between Kyrgyzstan and hosts Nepal. The day’s third match will see Bangladesh take on Uzbekistan.

In the General Technical Meeting on Sunday, Technical Delegate Mr Masood Yazdapana from Iran informed all participating teams about necessary matters including the tournament regulations, eligibility of players and officials, place of non-playing teams, position of team statisticians and video cameras, while NVA Secretary-General Mr Jitendra Bahadur Chand, himself Director of the Tournament, introduced all committee members of NVA that has been formed to organize the Championship.

Referee Manager Mr Gauatam Prasad Lasiwa introduced all referees officiating at the six-day event to the meeting attendants.

Furthermore, NVA has also implemented E-Scores and VIS System for the first time in the Asian Central Zone Volleyball Championship.

Those nominated for the Control Committee consist of Technical Delegate Mr Masoud Yazdanpanah from Iran, Mr Gautam Prasad Lasiwa, Mr Jitendra Bahadur Chand, Mr Ganga Bahadur Magar, Mr Ain Bahadur Shahi, Mr Roshan Shrestha and Mr Bijaya Krishna Bade.

Neutral Referee is Mr Masoud Ghari, international referee from Iran, while accompanying referees comprise Mr Hassan Shimad from Maldives, Mr Kokcholokov Nurgazy from Kyrgyzstan and Mr MD Humayan Morshed from Bangladesh as well as four Nepali referees – Mr Kul Bahadur Rana, Mr Purna Pd. Chaulagain, Mr Bijaya Kumar KC and Mr Bikash Gurung.
