AUSTRALIA END VNL CAMPAIGN WITH LOSS TO NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands ended their 2021 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League campaign in Rimini, Italy on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory against Australia for a total of 3 wins against 12 losses in the top-flight competition.

Netherlands struggled to beat Australia in the close first set 25-23, but still fared better in the remaining two sets to win to power past the Asian side in the remaining two sets 25-19, 25-19.

Nimir Abdel-Aziz chipped in with 17 points for the Netherland and Bennie Junior Tuinstra added 15 points. Oluwatobi Elliot Azeez led Australia with 11 points, while Nehemiah Mote bagged 10.

Nimir Abdel-Aziz said at the virtual Mixed Zone: “It’s always nice to finish the tournament with victory, and we did it. Today is a nice last day. It was a game like every other, it was a bit difficult, the last match, the last day of the tournament. It was a long tournament, we played 15 games, so it was not easy, but we are happy that we won. Physically I feel not so well. In the last few days I had some problems with my ankle, but now I have some time to recover.”

Nehemiah Mote said: I’m disappointed that we couldn’t finish the tournament the way we wanted to, but I’m looking at the tournament and I’m very proud of everyone’s contribution – players, staff, coaches and statistician. Everyone put in so much effort. Now we have finished the tournament with no major injuries. So we will be looking forward to resting and we will prepare for the next tournament which is the Asian Championship.
