Volleyball Australia (VA) has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2022 Australian Beach Volleyball Tour event that was set to be played on Manly Beach this weekend.

Forecasted torrential rain, combined with heavy surf conditions and high tides have forced the decision to be made.

VA CEO Andrew Dee said although the decision was difficult, the safety of the volleyball community is paramount.

“We are devastated to make the decision to cancel the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour this weekend,” Dee said.

“But the safety of competitors continues to be our utmost priority, and the effect of the approaching weather pattern and surf conditions will make the beach dangerous and unplayable.

“Our attention will now turn towards the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour Finals set to be held on the Gold Coast in three weeks time.

“We would like to thank our community for their understanding, and our thoughts are with all those affected by the current flooding emergency in Queensland and New South Wales,” he said.

The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour will arrive at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast from 25-27 March. For more information please visit – https://abvt.volleyball.org.au/
