Australia’s top junior beach volleyball players will congregate on the Sunshine Coast this week for the first leg of the 2022 Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Tour (AJBVT), in Mooloolaba between January 19 and 21.
The AJBVT is the premier domestic beach volleyball series for U19 and U21 age groups throughout Australia, bridging the gap between the Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championships and the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (ABVT).
Being on their home sand, the event is sure to attract a lot of up-and-coming Queensland beach volleyball players.
Head Volleyball Coach at the Queensland Academy of Sport, Josh Slack, said this week’s event is just the beginning of an exciting summer of volleyball.
“I can’t wait to dive into the 2022 beach volleyball season,” Slack said.
“We have amazing events in fantastic locations across multiple states in our country that attract the best players in Australia.
“A couple of the exciting athletes to watch this week include Kayla Mears in the women’s and Toby Bergh in the men’s events.
“Kayla recently placed fifth with her partner Jasmine Fleming in the U21 World Championships.
“Toby was second with his partner Jeremy McEvoy at last year’s Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championships, and has been looking really strong over the past few months.
“Bring on the first event, let’s get this party rolling!”
