Volleyball Australia (VA) has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Australian Volleyball League (AVL).

Originally scheduled to be held on the Gold Coast from December 2-5, 2021, current COVID-19 restrictions in place around Australia, impacting travel as well as the delivery of events, has made the decision necessary.

Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee said the decision to cancel was made in consultation with the respective state teams and was not taken lightly and every option had been explored in an attempt to give every State an opportunity to participate.

“2021 continues to present us with many challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, and while we are disappointed to be making this announcement, we wanted to provide Clubs with as much notice as possible,” Dee said.

“The Australian Volleyball League is a hallmark event on the Volleyball Australia calendar, and we explored all avenues in order to see the 2021 event go ahead.

“However, the health and safety of our community is of utmost importance, and we will now turn our attention to planning the 2022 AVL,” he said.
