Bangkok, Thailand, March 7, 2025 – The AVC Coaches Committee met on Friday to review the previous coaching programs and prepare strategic plans for the next four years, setting their sights that the decision-making discussions would be beneficial to coaching development.
The Friday’s meeting was held in a hybrid format with AVC Coaches Committee Chairwoman Ms Feng Kun from China, Secretary Ms Lucyana Yvette Taroreh from Indonesia and AVC Development Coordinator Ms Mingkwan Pusiddusid joining the meeting on site at the AVC Headquarters in Bangkok, while Mr Mohammad Yousuf Sadeq from Afghanistan, Mr Mahmoud Afshardoust from Iran, Mr Tandin Wangchuk from Bhutan, Mr Mohammed Jalal Isa Hassan from Bahrain, Mr Bader A.Y.A. Alkous from Kuwait, Mr Khalid Rashed Obaid Aldahail Almheiri from the United Arab Emirates and Mr Masashi Nambu from Japan attended on Zoom.

AVC President Mr Ramon Suzara, accompanied by AVC Secretary General Mr Hugh Graham, first delivered the welcome address to all the members.
“Welcome to the AVC Coaches Committee Meeting. First and foremost, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the newly-appointed members. This is the first meeting of the AVC Coaches Committee. It must also be the first meeting after the recent election and I am confident that with your expertise and commitment, we will work together to further elevate volleyball and beach volleyball in Asia. Of course, coaches play a crucial role in shaping the future of the sport. The dedication and passion influenced those goals of our athletes or players, helping them reach a new height of excellence. And the fresh perspective and new energy encouraged this committee to push the positive ideas and hand coaching methodology and develop new initiatives that will benefit our volleyball committee,” said Mr Ramón Suzara.
“I urged you all to actively participate in discussion and contribute your insights toward deciding in various projects that will improve our developments and our coaches. I wish you all a productive and successful meeting and we continue to work in unity. I would like to say that this is for the first time that we have a Chairman and Secretary in this AVC Coaches Committee in both women,” the AVC President was quoted as saying in his speech.

Mr Graham added, “Greeting my friends, my colleagues, I’m gonna say it is the great honour for me to be appointed as the Secretary General of AVC. I know some of you and I see you before and I say Hello again to my friends we have met before. We have new relationship in AVC. We have a new look of AVC and I understand that you have had previous suggestion, recommendation for the coaching committee. As the new members of the AVC Coaches Committee, please make sure that your deliberation and your suggestion are heard for development of AVC. I wish you a fruitful meeting and all the best. Thank you.”

After that, the meeting heard the short speech of each member’s self introduction, followed by the acknowledgement of the Minutes of the 2024 AVC Coaches Committee Meeting, also in a hybrid format, on February 3 in Bangkok.

The Committee Chairwoman Feng Kun reported on the recent FIVB Coaches Commission Meeting on Zoom on February 10, which reinforced commitment to FIVB Strategic vision 2032 grounded in the motto “Together as One”. The Commission Meeting’s key discussion points consisted of Increasing Volleyball’s Appeal to Casual Fans, Game Rule Adjustments & Game Technology Update, and Improvement of Players and Coaches.
The Friday’s meeting also proposed that AVC Coaches Courses be held during the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Thailand from August 22 to September 7 and the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Philippines between September 12 and 28.
AVC President Mr Suzara totally agreed with the proposal, citing that AVC Coaches Committee Chairwoman Feng Kun, a former China women’s national volleyball team setter and captain who steered China to the 2004 Olympics gold medal in Athens, where she was awarded MVP and the Best Setter, has been invited to be the instructor in the Setting Seminar due to be held during the Philippines playing host to the AVC Women’s Champions League in Manila from April 20 to 27, 2025.
Other key topics including the volleyball academy from each zone and the best selection for the Asian Coach of the Year are also raised for further discussion.

The AVC President also suggested that the AVC Coaches Committee improve and expand the exchanging cooperation with CEV in the Euro-Asia Coaches Cooperation Project. This is not only to explore exciting opportunities for future collaboration and strengthen the longstanding relationship of the two governing bodies, but also develop coaching knowledge and upgrade Asian coaches to world-class level.
