CHINA CRUISE TO STRAIGHT-SETS WIN ON UZBEKISTAN

Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, July 4, 2022 – China rushed to a straight-sets win, 3-0 (25-6, 25-9, 25-4) against Uzbekistan at the opening match in Pool B of the Preliminary Round of the 21st Asian Women’s U20 Volleyball Championship on Monday afternoon at the NU Sports Centre.

China captain Wang Yifan turned out with good percentages from the left side, to earn a total of 14 points as the best scorer of the match. She contributed a total of 11 attacks and 3 service aces, as testament to her commitment to really work hard for the team’s merit in the competition.

“I tried to do my best on the court today, hoping that I could continue this way in the next match.” said the 17 year-old outside hitter from Guangdong.

China put their tall line-up to good use, garnering great success from their flank attacks. They stuck well to their system, providing good volleyball all around, in serve, block, and attack, while minimizing their intake of errors.

Uzbekistan tried to find their best unit on the floor, and succeeded in prolonging their rallies in the second set. They showed that they could make good, successfully executed decisions in transition. However, they needed to be more intentional and established in their system, in order to overcome a tough challenge from their opponents.

China come in as the winningest team (12 titles) in the competition’s history as AVC Women’s U19 Championship. Head coach Kuang Qi sees this as a good opportunity to show what his current team is truly capable of.

“Today, I think the team played at 40% of their level but I know they will play even better in the days to come. I am pretty satisfied with today’s win,” said Kuang Qi.

China will play India on Tuesday, July 5, at 12:30 PM, while Uzbekistan will take a day off and resume to play, likewise against India, on Wednesday, July 6, at 12:30 PM. All times local.

The top two teams of the competition shall qualify directly in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U21 World Championship in 2023.
