Ningbo, China, September 19, 2023 – China women’s beach volleyball team delighted their home supporters as both pairs took 2-0 victories over their opponents on the opening day of the 19th Asian Games Beach Volleyball Competition here at Xiangshan Beach Volleyball Center.

The most impressive match of the day came from Pool B, seeing No. 18 seed Progella/Matibag of Philippines stage a crazy comeback 2-1 (17-21, 23-21, 15-13) win against No. 7 seed Wong/To of Hong Kong, China.

In the other two women’s matches held in the morning, 6th seeded Phirachayakrailert/Patcharamainaruebhorn of Thailand claimed a convincing 2-0 (21-15, 21-11) victory over Lee/Jeon of Korea in Pool C, while their compatriots No. 2 seed Naraphornrapat/Kongphopsarutawadee cruised to an easy 2-0 (21-8, 21-10) triumph over Tam/Lei of Macao, China in Pool B.

Surprises happened also in the afternoon. In Pool C, 14th seeded Law/Leong of Macao, China upset 11th seeded Yuen/Lo of Hong Kong, China in a straight set 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) win. Hong Kong reloaded for the second set and replied their opponent with a 4-0 start. Macao timely requested a timeout and recaptured the momentum to counter back. With less mistakes and more patience, they finally reversed the situation and took back the second set in 21-15.

In Pool D, No. 12 seed Rachenko/Ukolova of Kazakhstan were also overturned by No. 13 seed Sari/Herdanti of Indonesia in 1-2 (21-12, 16-21, 13-15).

In the evening session, No. 8 seed Rodriguez/Eslapor of Philippines in Pool A encountered no resistance from Shin/Kim of Korea as they soon captured a overwhelming 2-0 (21-11, 21-6) win within 30 minutes.

In Pool A, No. 9 seed Kabulbekova/Ivanchenko of Kazakhstan could have a bad night as they were disordered by No. 16 seed Deepika/Chathurika of Sri Lanka in the second set. But they soon re-concentrated in the decider and pulled off a hard 2-1 (21-12, 12-21, 15-8) victory.
