CHINA MAINTAIN POSITION AS BEST ASIAN TEAM IN FIVB WOMEN’S WORLD RANKING

FIVB has on October 14 updated the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Ranking of Asian Volleyball Confederation affiliated national federations’ teams which saw the 2016 Rio Games and 2018 Asian Games gold medallists China claim No.5 in the World Ranking but finish on top of the Asian standings with 338 points, followed by world No.6 Japan, defending and consecutive two-time Asian winners (316 points), world No.15 Thailand (207 points), world No.23 Korea (149) and world No.46 Kazakhstan (86).

Meanwhile, the rest of the Asian teams all finished below top-50 in the FIVB World Ranking, with Chinese Taipei coming in 6th in Asia and 56th in the World Ranking and Australia 7th in Asia and 57th in the World Ranking with the similar 65 points.

The other teams comprised India 65th in the World Ranking with 47 points, Hong Kong, China 69th (43 points), Iran 73rd (39 points), Indonesia 75th (37 points) and Sri Lanka 80th (29 points).

According to the FIVB World Ranking system, every year on January 1, the national teams that did not play any matches counting towards the new World Ranking over the year will lose -50 WR points for the next year. An inactive team reaching a WR score of less than 20 WR points will be removed from the ranking list.

As soon as an inactive team removed from the ranking plays a match counting towards the new World Ranking, it will be reinstated and attributed with its previous WR score from before being removed.
