CHINA, KOREA, INDIA SCORE WINS ON DAY 3 OF ASIAN WOMEN’S U20 CHAMPIONSHIP

Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, July 6, 2022 – The Preliminary Round of the 21st Asian Women’s U20 Volleyball Championship continued to unfold on Wednesday with China, Korea, and India picking up straight-set wins in their respective match-ups in Nur-Sultan City’s NU Sports Centre.

China went three for three, as they took a straight-sets win against defending champions Japan 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-19) in one of the most anticipated matches in Pool B of the competition.

The crowd at the NU Sports Centre in Kazakhstan’s capital city roared with cheers and chants from spectators who were delighted to witness a classic volleyball match-up.

China captain Wang Yifan delivered with her reliable leadership and scoring input, charting a total of 17 points from 15 attacks and 2 stuff blocks.

Likewise in Pool B, India enjoyed their first taste of victory with a 3-0 defeat (25-21, 25-11, 25-14) of Uzbekistan.

Much credit went to Gopika Gunasekaran with 19 points and captain Pal Prerona with 10 points. who led the charge for India.

In Wednesday’s main event in Pool A, Korea defeated Kazakhstan in a 3-0 match (25-14, 25-20, 25-20), in front of the home crowd in NU Sports Centre.

Opposite Yang Youkyung stood out and performed with 12 points, from 10 attacks, 1 block and 1 service ace.

Korea head coach Eo Chang Sun was pleased with the victory and commented: “The team did really well in service and in reception. This was the important part of today’s win. In our next match (against Iran), we want to continue with the same mindset, knowing that we will play against a tall team.”

The Preliminary round concludes on Saturday, July 9.

Sunday, July 10 will see the semi-finals, setting up for the classification, medal matches and awarding ceremony on Monday, July 11.

Teams will look to book the top two spots in the competition as AVC’s representatives for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U21 World Championship in 2023.
