The 2022-2023 Chinese Men’s Volleyball Super League kicked off on Saturday at the Sports Center Gymnasium of Wuyuan County in Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, with Nanjing Radio and Television Mao Mao going down 2-3 to Baoding Woli in their opening clash in Pool B.

The Chinese Men’s Super League in the new season has adopted a competition system. According to the first stage of the competition, the competition started on October 29 and will end on November 18. Participating 14 teams have been divided into Pool A and Pool B.

However, due to the grave concerns of over epidemic, the Group A competition, which was originally due to be held in Kaifeng, Henan Province from October 29 to November 4, has been postponed and set to take place from November 23 to November 29 instead. The Group B matches are going on as planned.

On Saturday, Baoding Woli got their campaign in the Chinese Super League off to a good start with a hard-fought 3-2 (31-33, 26-24, 25-21, 19-25, 17-15) win against Nanjing Radio and Television Mao Mao.

Yu Yuantai, Chinese national team player and captain of the Nanjing Radio and Television Mao Mao, said, “Our opponents are very aggressive, while our team players are very young. As the captain for the first time, I need momentum, but also I have to keep calm and drive the team. In this game, the opponents targeted at our blocking and defense at the critical moment.”

In the other two matches in the first round of Group B on Saturday, the 16-time champions Shanghai Bright brushed off Huangshi Dongchu Group 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-14), while Tianjin Foods fought hard to beat Shandong Ruchen 3-2 (18-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 15-13).

The opening ceremony of the Chinese Men’s Super League was held ahead of the first match at the Wuyuan Sports Centre Gymnasium, with all participating teams joining the ceremony.
