Tehran, Iran, August 15, 2022 – Chinese Taipei downed Kuwait in dramatic four-setter 25-11, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16 for their first win in Pool A in the 14th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Federation Hall on Monday.
Chinese Taipei, which finished fourth at the previous edition in 2018, opened up aggressively to clinch the first two sets, lost their touch in the third one and cruised on to win the fourth set for the match.
Kao Yu-Hao chipped in with 19 points for Chinese Taipei, while Ahmad Alhamadan led Kuwait with the similar 19 points.
Chinese Taipei opened the first set with a five-point lead at 8-3, and remained on course to win the completely one-sided battle 25-11.
The second set remained a similar script as Chinese Taipei took command from the very beginning, with Lin Ting-Wei and Kao Yu-Hao attacking devastatingly. Despite the improvement shown by the Kuwaitis, Chinese Taipei showed no mercy to the Kuwaitis to leave them behind 11-6, and went on their relentless attacks to win the comfortable set 25-17.
Kuwait managed to put Chinese Taipei in trouble in the third set as they raced to a commanding 15-12 lead, and though putting up a brave fight, Chinese Taipei found the going gets tough. Kuwait surged away to seal the victory 25-20.
As Kuwait struggled to find their form in the fourth set, Chinese Taipei shone through their splendid offensive tactics and cruised to a dominant 25-16 win for the match.
Both teams will have a rest day on Tuesday. Chinese Taipei will next play China in their second Pool A game on Wednesday, while Kuwait will challenge Iran in the pool preliminaries.
