Wednesday’s Commission meeting was hosted online
The FIVB Athletes’ Commission met via videoconference on Wednesday with the Commission President, Madelein Meppelink, joining from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne.
During the meeting, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° praised the Commission for its work for the benefit of the volleyball and beach volleyball athletes around the world. He also noted the great results achieved at the Commission elections in 2021 with members elected to ensure equal representation from both volleyball and beach volleyball, in addition to gender balance, therefore reflecting how volleyball is a gender equal sport by nature.
During the meeting, the Commission discussed a number of important topics, including updates on the FIVB and Volleyball World and the revolutionary programme of Volleyball Empowerment. Additionally, members were updated on the latest status of the volleyball and beach volleyball calendars for 2022.
Speaking at the meeting, the FIVB President said:
“Your Commission is very important for the FIVB as it represents the voice of the athletes. I am very proud that following the first-ever Athletes’ Commission elections in 2021, we have achieved gender-equal and discipline-balanced representation with 50 per cent female and 50 per cent male athletes, and 50 per cent from volleyball and 50 per cent from beach volleyball. This is a great result!”
The FIVB Commission meetings will proceed with the Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission on Friday, January 28, the Medical Commission on Tuesday, February 1 and Snow Volleyball Commission on Thursday, February 3.
