FIVB ATHLETES’ COMMISSION MEET FIVB LEADERSHIP IN GDANSK

The meeting was held during the Men’s VNL Finals hosted in Poland

Six members of the FIVB Athletes’ Commission, led by its President and FIVB Board of Administration member Madelein Meppelink, met FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° and FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo in Gdansk, Poland during the Finals of the Men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023.

Alongside the Commission President, the meeting was attended by Commission Secretary Sam Deroo from Belgium and Commission members Louise Bawden from Australia, Joshua Binstock from Canada, Sergio Santos from Brazil and the newly appointed member Doaa Elghobashy from Egypt. 

The remaining members were unable to attend due to their participation in the VNL Finals or prior commitments.

The Athletes’ Commission used the opportunity to discuss with the FIVB leadership the recent decisions taken at the FIVB Board of Administration meeting, while focusing on the importance of actively communicating all new initiatives to volleyball and beach volleyball players worldwide.

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“Athletes are our key stakeholders and serve as role models to millions of fans worldwide. We are delighted to meet with the Athletes’ Commission here in Gdansk and discuss all the latest innovations in our sport. The FIVB has been continuously listening to the points raised by the Commission and implementing those in our day-to-day work.

“With the President of the Athletes’ Commission also a member of the FIVB Board of Administration, as well as part of the working group to define the exact dates of the 2025-2028 Volleyball Calendar, we strive to ensure that the athlete voice is well represented at all levels of the FIVB’s governance.”

FIVB Athletes’ Commission President Madelein Meppelink said:

“It was a great opportunity for the Athletes’ Commission to meet in person and discuss various key topics both with the FIVB leadership and within the working groups. We are delighted to be part of the discussions that directly impact the players in our sport, as our Commission’s goal is to ensure the athletes’ perspective remains at the heart of the decision-making processes.”

The Athletes’ Commission also had an opportunity to attend the semi-finals and finals of the Men’s VNL and enjoy the incredible atmosphere in the venue in Gdansk, Poland.
