Lausanne, Switzerland, April 06, 2020 – In order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the players, officials and fans during the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, a joint decision has been taken by the FIVB and the event organisers to cancel the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 5-star event scheduled for 7-12 July in Gstaad, Switzerland, and the 4-star event scheduled to be held on 15-19 July in Espinho, Portugal.
All changes to the beach volleyball event calendar have been adopted following consistent monitoring of the global situation, and in full cooperation with the international and national health and sports authorities, including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
In addition, in light of the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the FIVB is working with the IOC concerning the adaptation of the beach volleyball qualification system. Any changes will be communicated to the stakeholders at a later stage. The Beach Volleyball Ranking is currently frozen as of 16 March 2020 until further notice.
The FIVB extends its deepest sympathies and stands in solidarity with the entire beach volleyball community during these challenging times.
