FIVB ELEVATES LEVEL OF VIETNAM’S NATIONAL BEACH VOLLEYBALL TEAMS THROUGH COACHING SUPPORT

Experienced coach, Adam Maskell, assigned by FIVB to improve technical development of Vietnam’s beach volleyball teams

The FIVB is currently provided invaluable coaching support to the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam (VFV) with the aim of elevating the level of beach volleyball in Vietnam ahead of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 2021.

In 2020, the 12-month coaching support project was approved via the FIVB Development Programme and got underway in 2021. The FIVB assigned Adam Maskell, a highly-experienced coach from Australia, to work in coordination with the FIVB, VFV and current national team coaches – Pham Ba Chung, Mai Thi Hoa, Tran Ngoc Cao Son and Nguyen Thanh Vinh – to restructure the VFV’s national team programme, strengthen national coaches and ensure the creation of talent pathways.

In addition, Maskell is working to implement a performance programme with a key emphasis on supporting the technical and tactical development of national teams to compete at a higher level in international competitions. Advancing both the psychological and physical elements integral to sport is also a key objective of the project.

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“The FIVB is committed to reinvesting the money that comes from the sport back into the sport to develop the level of national teams worldwide. This 12-month coaching support programme with the VFV is one of the latest examples of this commitment in action, and I have no doubt that we will see the positive benefits of the project at competitions in the near future.

“We will also further strengthen volleyball and beach volleyball worldwide through the Volleyball Empowerment platform where all 222 of our national federations, categories 1-2-3-4 and 5, can apply for support, 365 days a year. This, coupled with targeted support, will further empower national teams and athletes worldwide by providing them with the skills to play at the highest level.”

VFV President Le Van Thanh said:

“Adam Maskell brings a wealth of expertise and experience in beach volleyball coaching with him to Vietnam. It won’t just be the players who benefit from his teaching but also the national team coaches who will gain valuable knowledge from working alongside him during his tenure.”

Vietnam’s beach volleyball teams have been training intensively under the guidance of Maskell at the Can Tho National Training Centre.

Maskell is a former Australian senior national indoor and beach volleyball player who has international experience in every facet of high-performance coaching. He learnt from some of the best coaches in the world including Mark Lebedew, Jon Uriate, Carlos ‘Alemao’ Galetti and Steve Tutton.
