Yudhoyono founded the men’s professional club Jakarta LavAni in 2019 in honour of his late wife Ani Yudhoyono. The club soon took the league by storm, winning the title in its Proliga debut in 2022 and successfully defending the crown as the league wrapped up its 2023 season last weekend.
FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:
“It was a pleasure to meet with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during the men’s finals as his diverse team of local and international players showcased great resilience and teamwork to win the league. As the sixth President of Indonesia, Yudhoyono knows how to lead, and he has put all his expertise into developing a talented team with professionalism, teamwork and dedication at its core.
“The fans were also incredible during the men’s final. Their enthusiasm was a sight to behold, and the atmosphere in the stadium was electric thanks to their roars and the implementation of fantastic sports presentation elements! It was a beautiful moment to see how the players and fans in Indonesia have really embraced the sport and feel the passion for volleyball that we live and breathe every single day at the FIVB.”
Jakarta LavAni’s players celebrate as a team
During the finals, the Proliga became the first Indonesian national league across all sports to implement state-of-the-art video challenge technology. The league is aiming to use this technology during all league matches in future seasons.
It is the latest highlight in the Proliga’s and the National Volleyball Federation of Indonesia’s commitment to innovation and advancing volleyball in the country, with the support of the FIVB. Following the world-class standard of sports presentation introduced by the FIVB in 2014, the Proliga implemented key elements like a professional DJ, MC, lighting and sound systems to actively entertain and engage the spectators throughout the matches.
In the men’s final played on Sunday, Jakarta LavAni displayed sporting excellence to overcome Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 24-26, 25-21,15-09) in a thrilling match at the GOR Among Rogo arena in Yogyakarta. Fahri Septian Putratama of Jakarta LavAni was named Most Valuable Player, while Hendra Kurniawan took the award for best Middle Blocker and Dio Zulfikri was named Best Setter.
Meanwhile, Jakarta STIN BIN took home the bronze medal having amassed eight points to finish third in the playoffs behind Lavani (16) and Bhayangkara Presisi (12).
