FIVB SUPPORT ACCELERATES DEVELOPMENT OF NEPAL MEN’S NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL TEAM

Nepal Volleyball Association is latest National Federation to benefit from FIVB support

The Nepal Volleyball Association’s (NVA) commitment to elevating the level of its men’s national team has been given a considerable boost through the FIVB’s development programme.

Since 2017, the FIVB has provided the NVA with both equipment support and coaching support to help accelerate the development of the sport in Nepal. Most notably, the Nepal men’s national volleyball team benefited from three months of coaching support with six months of support also approved in 2021.

As part of the project, Han Abbing, a highly-experienced coach from the Netherlands, was selected to lead the team in preparation for the Asian Central Zone Volleyball Challenge Cup in Bangladesh. In just a short time with the national team, Coach Abbing helped the team to a fourth-place finish at the competition following wins against Uzbekistan and the Maldives.

Despite losing out to Uzbekistan in the bronze-medal match, the team’s performance was a big improvement and showcased their potential for even greater success in the future. With a further six months of coaching support already approved, the NVA is already looking ahead to this year’s Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“The FIVB is always seeking to grow the level of national teams worldwide by reinvesting the money that comes from the sport back into the sport. The good work by Coach Abbing and our friends at the NVA, with the FIVB’s support, has already produced good results on the court and I am excited to see the national team continue to improve in the future.”

NVA General Secretary Jitendra Bahadur Chand said:

“On behalf of the NVA, we would like to thank the FIVB for the support we have received via the FIVB’s development programme. This kind of development programme plays a vital role in enhancing National Federations and national teams in developing countries like Nepal. Through this programme, we have already seen some great results and a noticeable improvement in the level of our national team.”

Coach Han Abbing said:

“It has been an honour to support the Nepal men’s national team in their preparation for the Asian Central Zone Volleyball Challenge Cup in Bangladesh. The results I have seen have been very promising, and I have been thrilled with the players’ enthusiasm and passion for the game. I look forward to seeing the continued development of volleyball in Nepal.”
