FIVB SUPPORT HELPS ELEVATE QATAR MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM TO NEW HEIGHTS

Qatar men’s national team set to make first-ever World Championship appearance next year

FIVB coaching support has helped to elevate the Qatar men’s national team to new heights as the team rises through the World Rankings and secures its first-ever FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship appearance.

The team is currently receiving 12 months coaching support under the guidance of highly-experience Argentinian coach Camilo Andres Soto. Since the beginning of 2021, the team has climbed three places from 23 to 20 in the FIVB Senior World Rankings, an achievement that has ensured that Qatar will make its World Championship debut at next year’s edition.

In addition, the FIVB supported the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) through high-level coach the coaches programmes in 2017 and 2018.

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“Qatar’s appearance at the tournament will be its first in the history of volleyball, and it is clear that the FIVB’s support is helping to improve the technical and tactical level of the Qatar team.

“We are always delighted to see that our commitment to reinvesting the money that comes from the sport back into the sport is helping national teams across the world improve. And in turn, this enables the entire level of our beloved sport to reach even greater heights.”

QVA President Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari said:

“Coach Camilo Andres Soto started work with the Qatar Volleyball Association and, within a short period, we saw great development and a higher level for our players. He also started to work with younger players in view of developing players for the senior national team in the near future.

“This project has helped us to achieve two great targets in a short period, winning the be 2018 Asian Men’s Volleyball Cup and taking 5th place at the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship and qualifying for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2022. We would like to thank FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° for his efforts to develop and improve our beloved sport all over the world.”

Head Coach Camilo Andres Soto said:

“I started working with the Qatar Volleyball Association at the beginning of 2018. The QVA provided me with all the necessary equipment and all possible resources which are needed to achieve success and to reach great and big targets. Also, whatever I ask for, from preparation camps, hosting some of the big teams in Asia in Doha, to attending camps outside of Doha and playing with some of the big teams in the world, the QVA is ready to help.

“The current group of players are perfect with good experience. All they needed was some guidance to put them on the right track to achieve our goals like winning the Asian Cup in 2018 and qualifying for the World Championship 2022. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the FIVB for providing such projects which will help many countries to improve and develop their volleyball level and compete against high ranked teams in the world.”
