Turkey and Mexico’s sport ministers visit venues to discuss the sport’s development with FIVB President

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° has welcomed a number of key guests from the global sports community and beyond to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 volleyball and beach volleyball venues.

The FIVB President welcomed Turkey’s Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Kasapoğlu to the Ariake Arena, the Tokyo 2020 volleyball venue, where they discussed volleyball’s continual development in Turkey. This development was on full display in the Ariake Arena as Turkey defeated defending women’s Olympic champions China in straight sets.

In addition, at Shiokaze Park, the FIVB President met with Pan-American Sports Organisation President and IOC Member Neven Ilić where they were able to enjoy the most charming sport on the Olympic programme, beach volleyball. The FIVB President and Mr Ilic discussed the strength of beach volleyball in the Americas.

Mexico’s Sports Minister Ana Guevara also visited the beach volleyball venue. A developing beach volleyball nation, Mexico most recently hosted the Cancun Hub, three back-to-back World Tour 4-star events, which was created by the FIVB to minimise travel for athletes in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The success of the Cancun Hub and how it could be leveraged to further develop beach volleyball in Mexico was discussed in dept by the FIVB President and Minister Guevara.
