JAPAN OUST BULGARIA IN COMFORTABLE STRAIGHT SETS AT 2021 VNL

In-form Japan powered past Bulgaria in comfortable straight sets to capture their 7th win in the 2021 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League in Rimini, Italy on Monday.

Japan’s convincing 25-23, 25-18, 25-14 victory over Bulgaria has improved their win-loss record to 7 wins against 6 losses to come in 7th place at the 16-team standings, while Bulgaria had 2 wins against 11 losses to trail in a distant 15th position with 7 points.

However, with strong contenders such including Brazil (12 wins, 35 points), Poland (11-33), Slovenia (10-28), France (9-29) and Russia (9-29) collecting 9 wins with exceeding 29 points and only two matches remaining ahead of the end of the single round-robin preliminaries of the 2021 VNL, both Japan and Bulgaria found it impossible to make the cut for the Final Four.

Talented Yuji Nishida scored a match-high 23 points for Japan on Monday as Yuki Ishikawa added 12 points. Asparuh Asparuhov led Bulgaria with 17 points.
