Bangkok, Thailand, December 7, 2020 – Jiangsu captured a magnificent comeback 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 30-28, 25-20) win over Shanghai as Tianjin cruised past Liaoning for a third straight win in the third stage of the Chinese Women’s Volleyball League in Jiangmen on Sunday, xinhuanet.com reported.

Shanghai burst out on a 3-0 run and kept the upper hand, though Jiangsu fought back hard to tie the game three times. After a 14-point tie, Shanghai jumped to a four-point lead to widen the gap and take the first set.

After a brief adjustment, Jiangsu staged a strong performance in front of the net in the second set to get 20 points from spikes and five points from blocks, which left the runners-up last season no chances to challenge them.

The third set saw a reverse of fortunes. Shanghai had a slight advantage to take the lead from the beginning and got the set point first at 24-22. At the key moment, Zhang Changning and Gong Xiangyu saved the day for Jiangsu with their tight blocks. After saving five set points, Jiangsu took the closely-contested set 30-28.

In the fourth set, Jiangsu maintained their good momentum to outlast their opponents and sealed the victory which helped Jiangsu put an end to their nine-game losing streak record against Shanghai.

Chinese Olympic champions Zhang and Gong contributed 26 and 23 points respectively for Jiangsu while Shanghai’s Louisa Lippmann of Germany scored a match-high 29 points.

In another highly-anticipated match on Sunday, defending champions Tianjin routed Liaoning 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-16), with spiker Li Yingying scoring 25 points and Zhu Ting adding 19 while none of their opponents scored in double figures.

Also on Sunday, Henan breezed past Hebei 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-15), Fujian triumphed over Sichuan 3-1 (25-22, 25-15, 14-25, 25-14), Shandong beat Beijing 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-13) and Guangdong overcame Zhejiang 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-19).
